(MBSR)

 

MBSR is an 8 week program based on scientific research that has been taught at medical centers all over the world and is the Gold Standard in mindfulness training. This course follows the curriculum and methodology developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It is taught by fully certified MBSR instructors

and follows the official MBSR Standards of Practice.

            MBSR is  the most trusted meditation training program.

Over the last couple of decades, thousands of research articles have been published establishing the efficacy of practicing mindfulness  as a way of reducing stress and improving medical and psychological symptoms. Stress has been associated directly with the development of chronic illness such as cardiovascular disorders, hypertension, obesity, anxiety and depression. 

People with the following conditions found the course extremely beneficial and reported significant improvements:  

Chronic stress (work, family, money) , anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, heart disease, high blood pressure, 

skin disorders, chronic pain, obesity and eating disorders, relationship problems

 

Mindfulness explores and deepens the mind-body connection allowing you to train the areas of the brain that help you deal better with stress and difficult situations, a process called neuroplasticity. Researchers at Harvard University have shown, using fMRI studies, that eight weeks of MBSR training leads to thickening of the regions of the brain associated with learning and memory, emotion regulation, attention and sense of self. These changes develop and provide access to inner resources that become your ally in improving your health and well being. Even the smallest manifestation of mindfulness can lead to an insight that can have huge health benefits.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

 

  • Learn about the roles of stress and reactivity in health and healing

  • Cultivate mindful awareness through several different types of meditation practices

  • Learn mindfulness meditation and establish a daily meditation practice

  • Recognize negative patterns of reactivity triggered by stressors

  • Utilize mindfulness to develop alternative responses to stress

  • Apply mindfulness to cultivate a deeper connection with your body, emotions, and relationships with others

  • Improve your ability to relax and increase energy and enthusiasm for life

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

 

  • You will attend ONLINE group classes for 2 ½ hours, once a week for 8 weeks.

  • One all-day silent retreat between class 6 and 7

 

You will practice:

  • Sitting Meditation

  • Walking meditation

  • Body Scan Meditation

  • Mindful Eating

  • Gentle Yoga

  • Group discussion

Workbook and guided audio recordings are provided for daily 1-hour home practice, which is strongly recommended in order to

enhance the benefits of the program.

Mary Beth Stern is a certified

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, trained and certified by the Center for Mindfulness at UMASS Medical School. She has been teaching in Palm Beach county since 2014  and was was the senior MBSR teacher at Jupiter Medical Center.

Mary Beth is also a Florida Board Certified Addictions counselor, and a  qualified facilitator in the app-based Habit Change Programs including Eat Right Now and Unwinding Anxiety, and continues advanced mindfulness training at Center for Mindfulness at Brown University.

Piero Falci, the instructor, teaches Mindfulness Meditation and Mindful Living, and the acclaimed Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. He was trained by the teachers of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and the teachers of the Mindfulness Center at Brown University. He teaches mindfulness workshops, leads insight meditation retreats, and organizes silent peace walks.
